Returning to a field you love will certainly provide a change of pace and an opportunity to learn different skills. I agree that it would be advantageous to briefly explain your reasoning for the interest in a modification of responsibility. There is no need to get into specifics about your parent’s health. However, you could say something along the lines of: “Although my experience in the past has been in management, my current situation entails a different type of flexibility.”
As you continue your conversation, highlight the attributes that would benefit the organization, making you the ideal candidate. Try, “I am confident I would excel in this position. Throughout my career, I have found I most enjoyed working directly with the public, delivering excellent service. My experience gives me a unique perspective on how important this role is to the customer’s overall satisfaction. I would consider it a privilege to serve on your team”.
